Kapitel 8

1 Da aber Samuel8050 alt ward2204, setzte7760 er seine Söhne1121 zu Richtern8199 über Israel3478.

2 Sein erstgeborner Sohn1060 hieß8034 Joel3100 und der8034 andere4932 Abia29; und waren Richter8199 zu Berseba.

3 Aber seine Söhne1121 wandelten1980 nicht in seinem Wege1870, sondern neigeten sich5186 zum Geiz1215 und310 nahmen3947 Geschenk7810 und beugeten das Recht4941.

4 Da versammelten sich6908 alle Ältesten2205 in Israel3478 und kamen935 gen Ramath zu Samuel8050.

5 Und sprachen559 zu ihm: Siehe, du bist alt worden, und deine Söhne1121 wandeln nicht in deinen Wegen1870; so setze7760 nun einen König4428 über uns, der uns richte8199, wie alle Heiden1471 haben1980.

6 Das1697 gefiel Samuel8050 übel3415, daß sie559 sagten: Gib5414 uns einen König4428, der uns richte8199. Und Samuel8050 betete6419 vor5869 dem HErrn3068.

7 Der HErr3068 aber sprach559 zu8085 Samuel8050: Gehorche der Stimme6963 des Volks5971 in allem, das sie3988 zu dir gesagt559 haben; denn sie haben nicht dich, sondern mich verworfen3988, daß ich nicht soll König4427 über sie sein.

8 Sie tun4639 dir, wie sie immer getan6213 haben5647 von dem Tage3117 an, da ich sie aus Ägypten4714 führete; bis auf5927 diesen Tag3117, und430 haben mich verlassen5800 und6213 andern312 Göttern gedienet.

9 So gehorche8085 nun ihrer Stimme6963. Doch389 bezeuge5749 ihnen und5749 verkündige5046 ihnen das Recht4941 des Königs4428, der über sie herrschen wird4427.

10 Und Samuel8050 sagte559 alle Worte des HErrn3068 dem Volk5971, das1697 von ihm einen König4428 forderte7592.

11 Das wird4427 des Königs4428 Recht4941 sein, der über euch herrschen wird: Eure Söhne1121 wird er7760 nehmen3947 zu seinem Wagen4818 und559 Reitern6571, die vor6440 seinem Wagen4818 her traben,

12 und zu6213 Hauptleuten über8269 tausend505 und über8269 fünfzig2572 und zu Ackerleuten2758, die ihm seinen Acker bauen2790, und zu Schnittern7114 in seiner Ernte7105, und daß sie seinen Harnisch3627, und was zu seinem Wagen7393 gehöret, machen7760.

13 Eure Töchter1323 aber wird er nehmen3947, daß sie Apothekerinnen, Köchinnen2879 und Bäckerinnen644 seien.

14 Eure besten2896 Äcker7704 und Weinberge3754 und Ölgärten2132 wird er nehmen3947 und seinen Knechten5650 geben5414.

15 Dazu von eurer Saat2233 und Weinbergen3754 wird er5414 den Zehnten nehmen und seinen Kämmerern5631 und Knechten5650 geben6237.

16 Und eure Knechte5650 und Mägde8198 und eure feinsten Jünglinge970 und eure Esel2543 wird2896 er nehmen3947 und seine Geschäfte4399 damit ausrichten6213.

17 Von euren Herden6629 wird er den Zehnten nehmen6237, und ihr müsset seine Knechte5650 sein.

18 Wenn6440 ihr6030 dann schreien2199 werdet zu der Zeit3117 über euren König4428, den ihr euch erwählet habt977; so wird euch der HErr3068 zu derselbigen Zeit3117 nicht erhören.

19 Aber das Volk5971 weigerte sich3985, zu gehorchen der Stimme6963 Samuels8050, und sprachen559: Mitnichten, sondern es soll ein König4428 über uns8085 sein,

20 daß wir seien auch wie alle andern Heiden1471, daß uns unser König4428 richte8199 und vor6440 uns her ausziehe, wenn wir unsere Kriege4421 führen3318.

21 Da gehorchte8085 Samuel8050 alle dem, das1697 das Volk5971 sagte1696, und sagte es vor den Ohren241 des HErrn3068.

22 Der HErr3068 aber sprach559 zu8085 Samuel8050: Gehorche ihrer Stimme6963 und4428 mache ihnen einen König4427! Und Samuel8050 sprach559 zu den Männern582 Israels3478: Gehet hin3212, ein376 jeglicher in seine Stadt5892!

Chapter 8

1 AND it came to pass, when Samuel was old, he made his sons judges over Israel.

2 Now the name of his first-born son was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah; they were judges in Beer-sheba.

3 But his sons did not walk in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes and perverted judgment.

4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together and came to Samuel to Ramtha,

5 And they said to him, Behold, you are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now give us a king to judge us like all the nations.

6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said to him, Give us a king to judge us like all the nations. And Samuel prayed before the LORD.

7 And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken to the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt even to this day, as they have forsaken me and served other gods, so do they also to you.

9 Now therefore hearken to their voice; but testify solemnly to them, and show them the law of the king who shall reign over them.

10 And Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who asked of him a king.

11 Then he said, This will be the law of the king who will reign over you: he will take your sons and appoint them for himself for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and they shall run before his chariots.

12 And he will appoint for himself officers of thousands and officers of hundreds and officers of fifties and officers of tens. And they shall plow his ground and reap his harvest and make his implements of war and instruments for his chariots.

13 And he will take your daughters to be weavers and grinders and bakers.

14 And he will take the best of your fields and your vineyards and your oliveyards, and give them to his servants.

15 And he will take the tenth of your crops and of your vineyards, and give to his officers and to his servants.

16 And he will take your menservants and your maidservants, and your goodly young men and your asses, and put them to his work.

17 He will take the tenth of your sheep; and you shall be his servants.

18 And you shall cry for help in that day because of your king whom you shall have chosen for yourselves; and the LORD will not answer you on that day.

19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said to him, No; but we will have a king over us,

20 That we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may judge us and go out before us and fight our battles.

21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he repeated them before the LORD.

22 And the LORD said to Samuel, Hearken to their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said to the men of Israel, Go every man to his city.
